Although therapy is a very individualized process, in general, therapy is a collaborative process between you and a trained mental health professional aimed at addressing emotional, psychological and behavioral challenges. Many people seek out therapy to have a safe and confidential space to work through very personal challenges in the hopes that they will achieve an improvement in their overall well-being. Sometimes, just the process of talking in therapy, can lead to immense breakthroughs. Other times, the trained professional will teach skills and strategies that can be used in various situations.
Therapy can be beneficial to many people facing a wide range of concerns. Examples include managing stress, reducing negative symptoms like depression or anxiety, improving communication and conflict resolution skills, processing past trauma or abuse, and focusing on self-care and working toward personal goals.
Ultimately, whether therapy is right for you depends on your unique circumstances, goals and readiness to engage in the therapeutic process. We believe that everyone has the potential to achieve their goals in therapy if they put in the work along with their therapist. Since we do our best to tailor our approach and treatment plan to each individual, it is our believe that therapy can be beneficial for almost anyone. (We admit, we might be a little biased in this view but there is also a lot of evidence and research to make such an assertion)
Our intake procedure is designed to ensure a smooth and efficient process to get you started in with us.
We begin with an initial screening where we gather some basic information about you and the services you are seeking. This helps us match you with the most appropriate therapist and to ensure we are the right level of care to provide the services you need. We also discuss scheduling options and financial information (rates, insurance coverage, etc) at this time.
Once the screening process is complete and you are matched with a Clinician, you will be provided with instructions for how to complete the intake forms on our client portal. Our portal makes it easy to complete consent forms and provide background information from the comfort of your home and securely online, prior to your first session. This helps your therapist gain a better understanding of you and helps to ensure a smooth and seamless initial session, which is mostly used to gather background information, discuss your goals for therapy and provide you and your therapist a chance to get to know each other.
Once you submit the forms through our client portal, they will be reviewed and you will be contacted to schedule your first session. At this point, you will be provided with instructions and a link to our secured telehealth platform, which you will use to attend your virtual sessions.
During your initial session, your therapist will review the information you provided in your intake forms and will ask additional questions as well as work with you to discuss your goals for therapy. Your therapist will also gladly answer any questions you have at that time or throughout the therapeutic process. Nicole Monroe, Clinical Director, is also always available to all clients seen at BTS, should the need arise.
We've worked with many people who have never stepped foot into a therapist's office. We welcome everyone and are here to guide you through the process. There isn't a 'one-size-fits-all' answer to this question because each person's unique circumstances vary and each person responds differently to therapy.
In general, clients often start seeing their therapist on a weekly or biweekly basis. This allows the therapist to get to know you and create a treatment plan tailored to fit your needs. As progress is made and goals are achieved, the frequency of sessions may decrease over time. Sometimes people ask to increase sessions if they are facing new or more intense challenges from time to time. We do our best to accommodate each client to the best of our ability.
The length of time it takes to see results from counseling sessions varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term treatment. Some people respond quickly and to some approaches and others may need more time and additional or alternative strategies. Our tailored approach allows us to have the flexibility to provide each person with an individualized treatment plan. We've found this to be the best approach to achieving positive outcomes for our clients.

*LAC's work under the direct supervision of Nicole Monroe, who is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) in the State of NJ and is able to provide Clinical Supervision to provisionally licensed clinicians who are working toward full, independent licensure. Clinical Supervision is closely monitored by regulatory boards to ensure proper training and supervision are being provided.

Yes, we are in network with most of the commercial Horizon BCBS, Aetna, Mertain and Cigna plans. We also accept some EAP plans and we are consistently adding more payers to our list of contracts. The best way to check your specific plan is to complete the new client request form. We will check your policy and let you know if we are contracted with them and/or what other options we have for payment.
If you have a plan that we are contracted with, we are able to send claims directly to the insurance company and we make this process as easy as possible. You just pay your out of pocket cost (copay, deductible, etc), if any, and we send the claim to the insurance company for payment.
If you have a plan we are not contracted with---we take this on a case by case basis regarding billing. Sometimes we are able to send on your behalf and other times, we can provide you with an invoice for you to seek reimbursement directly after paying up front.
Yes, for clients who do not have insurance that covers therapy, we offer a variety of affordable options. During the screening process, you will be provided with options. Most people have found them to be very affordable, flexible and reasonable.
Confidentiality is imperative in therapy and BTS prioritizes safeguarding your privacy. We adhere to strict professional and legal standards, ensuring that everything discussed in therapy remains confidential. While there are rare exceptions mandated by law, such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, your therapist will discuss these limitations with you from the start and throughout the therapeutic process. Your trust and comfort are paramount to us, and we are committed to creating a safe space where you can freely express your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement or disclosure.
